Moneypenny’s novice runners’ joy at completing first (half) marathon
20 novice runners from telephone answering company Moneypenny based in Wrexham completed their first race as part of the 6,000-strong entry in this weekend’s Chester Half Marathon.
Running for the first time as a team, the ‘Moneypenny Meanderers’ had been training since January in preparation for the big day.
A first-time runner, Rachel Clacher (47), who founded Moneypenny with brother Ed, has been amazed at the response within the company. She said: “It started as a tongue-in-cheek suggestion by one of our team; who knew how useless we all were at running; for perhaps a few of us to get involved.
“I reluctantly agreed to have a go and couldn’t believe it when so many people here decided to join me! Gav Rogers from RPM Fitness here in Wrexham designed a training plan for us and has been running training sessions every week. The majority of us had never run before, so he had a bit of a job on his hands!
“The event itself was great fun and it was fantastic to be running with so many colleagues while raising some money for our chosen charities along the way too. We’ve definitely got the running bug and now we’ve survived this weekend’s race, we’re all hoping to keep on covering the miles.”
