Backing the bid for Wrexham, City of Culture

Moneypenny loves Wrexham. It’s been the home of our UK HQ for over 20 years and the majority of our people are based in the county and surrounding areas.

Wrexham County is one of 8 areas in the UK reaching the longlist stage to be awarded City of Culture in 2025, this being the first-year bids were invited, not only from cities, but towns and counties across the UK.

Previous winners for the four yearly competition are Derry-Londonderry (2013), Hull (2017) and Coventry (2021).

The award was set up by UK Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, (DCMS)  to build on the success Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture 2008, which saw the city receive massive social and economic benefits, to help rejuvenate it.

Derry-Londonderry, Hull, and Coventry have seen a huge boost in investment in the local economy, growth in tourism and increased opportunities for arts and culture

Speaking about the Wrexham 2025 bid, Joanna Swash, said, “By supporting the Wrexham UK City of Culture bid 2025 we can put our community first and highlight our enthusiasm for what Wrexham has to offer. We have deep roots in the town, and are passionate about supporting our people and the wider community that we are a part of.”

The coming months will see lots of activity within the county to support the bid, and Moneypenny are excited to be part of it – starting with the amazing light installation currently set up at our HQ, featuring the colours of the #wrecsam2025 bid logo.
