Video Marketing 101: Where to find first-rate stock motion graphics

Motion graphics are sections of digital footage or animation, featuring moving images, text and/or graphics – anything from a waving flag, to a product explainer or dramatic lightning storm in space. They have real impact and look fantastic. Moreover, there’s a whole bunch of places on the web for you to find stock motion graphics that will save you both the time and expertise that’s required to create your own.

Our resident video producer, Jamie Parry-Bruce, gave us his insights on finding the very best stock motion graphics. Here’s what we learned;

Featuring a huge range of effects (some in 4K), graphics, templates and compositing elements, ProductionCrate is the #1 online archive of production-ready assets. The site offers a wealth of tutorials and step-by-step instructional videos which are really useful. Some assets are available free; others require monthly subscription at $49 (which is around £39) a month, or a one-off lifetime membership that costs around $500 – roughly £400.

Motion Array offers stock motion graphics, templates for After Effects and Premiere Pro, transitions, effects and more. Here, you’ll find some free graphics and elements in addition to a relatively well-priced annual plan that works out at $16 – approx £12.50 – per month (you’d need to pay the whole lot in one go to get that rate though). Known for their customer service and support, the team are happy to talk you through any difficulties you might encounter using their assets – particularly useful for those newer to video editing.

Videvo allows you to search just for free clips as well as scouring their full selection. The site offers a wide range of graphics and some transitions as well as composite elements. It’s all footage (MOV/mp4), as opposed to working effects files – which goes for most of the free/cheaper sites – and you’ll need to key these yourself which can be tricky for a beginner. If you want access to their premium assets, Videvo offer monthly subscriptions starting from $14.99 a month, which converts to around £12.

Held in the same regard as Shutterstock is for imagery and Premiumbeat for sound, Rocketstock is considered by many to be the very best place for stock motion graphics, effects, transitions and composite elements on the web. As you might imagine, the high quality (and reputation) means Rocketstock is pricier than other sites but they do have a ‘Freebies’ section with lots effects, transitions, overlays etc. available for download.
